1. WHAT IS CUET EXAM
CUET is a Computer Based Test (CBT) with objective-type multiple-choice questions. The Examinations are held in all major cities all over India and candidates are allowed to prioritize their exam city preferences. Students are required to pass their Class 12 board examinations with a minimum of 50% marks to be held eligible for appearing in the CUET Exam. However, the Exam syllabus is completely based on Class 12, which ultimately increases the importance of the Class 12 syllabus for CUET Preparation.
2. CUET IS NOT A NEW CONCEPT
The full form of CUET is the Common University Entrance Test and it is not completely new. It was earlier known as CUCET (Central University Common Entrance Test) and only a meager 13-15 universities participated in it till 2021. It was only in 2022 that it was revamped and re-launched with 90 universities participating. Now, in CUET 2024 it is believed that more than 250 universities would be participating. CUET is a common entrance exam for all the universities participating in it.
3. WHY IS CUET IMPORTANT
The introduction of CUET has unified the process and mechanism of admission in various Central and State universities as, until 2022, each central university had a distinct mechanism for taking admissions into their UG programs. The MoE along with the UGC has introduced CUET, which is a common exam for UG admissions into all the central and many other universities of India. The Test will be conducted by the NTA (National Testing Agency) once a year. This makes CUET Preparation extremely important for all the students aspiring to get admission to top universities across the country for their Undergraduate studies.
4. BETTER OPPORTUNITIES
Every student wishes to get admission into their dream university. However, earlier the admission process considered class 12 score-based cutoff. It gave all the importance to the class 12 Board marks. However, with the introduction of CUET, every student can have one more opportunity to perform their best in this common entrance test and seek admission to the university of their choice based on their CUET score. This makes things even easier because if you study well in Class 11 & 12, focusing on all concepts then with the right strategy you can score well in CUET as well.
5. CUET SYLLABUS
The NTA has kept the CUET Syllabus completely based on the class 12 syllabus. This way, since the Syllabus is based on the class 12 syllabus itself, the students would not have to study different subjects for CUET preparation and it would not prove to be an added burden on the students. There is only one subject that is not included in the Class 12 Syllabus which is the General Test (GT) which comprises General Knowledge, Logical and Analytical Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude. The NTA is fully aware of the fact that students are not taught such subjects in the schools, and keeping that in mind, the students would be asked only basic level questions, questions that a Class 12 student is expected to be able to answer in the CUET Exam.
6. IMPORTANCE OF BOARD RESULT NOW ?
Many people think that with the introduction of CUET, the importance of the class 12 board results has significantly decreased. However, this is not the case as the CUET Syllabus is completely based on the Class 12 Syllabus which even raises its importance. Moreover, the University of Delhi has announced the consideration of class 12 marks for the tiebreaker scenario i.e. students with equal CUET scores who are choosing the same college and course. This highly increases the importance of Class 12 board results. So prepare well!
